Doors-Off West Maui & Molokai Helicopter

About this experience

Air Maui calls this the only doors-off helicopter tour on Maui, and the listing backs it up. You fly 45 minutes from Kahului Heliport up into the West Maui Mountains, past waterfalls and deep valleys, then across to the Molokai coast and back. Six passengers share the cabin with the pilot.

The rules are strict, and they're the price of the view. Only a cell phone on board, on a lanyard round your neck, with one hand on it. No hats, bags, sunglasses or loose items. Goggles and a windbreaker are provided. Closed shoes or ankle-strap sandals, and long hair tied in a bun or braid. Children must be 10, and only those 16 and over sit on an outside seat.

Weight matters too. A single passenger of 230 lbs or more, a pair over 400 lbs combined, or a group of three or more averaging 190 lbs must buy an extra seat; anyone over 250 lbs buys a comfort seat. Air Maui also sells the tour direct on Air Maui's own website, where the doors-off flight was listed at $429.99 per person in October 2026. The Viator price is $452.

  • No doors: no glare on your photos
  • West Maui Mountains, waterfalls and the Molokai coast
  • Pilot narration and music through headsets
  • Windbreaker and goggles provided
  • Shared cabin of six

★★★★★

If you're going to do a helicopter. Tour, I highly recommend the doors off. Unreal visibility and it takes the experience to a whole new level!

Do not take it lightly when they say to tie your hair up!! My friends hair was completely matted after she wore a loose bun [...]

We were extremely blessed with perfect weather, a double rainbow, and all waterfalls flowing.

We had the opportunity to experience beautiful and extremely remote landscapes most people will not see with their own eyes.

Tips before you book

  • Braid long hair. A loose bun won't survive the wind, as one guest found out.
  • Bring only your phone. Everything else stays in the office or the car.
  • Wear contacts or your smallest glasses: they go under the goggles.
  • The listing's own terms say no refunds or rescheduling within 48 hours of the flight, stricter than Viator's 24-hour line. Plan as if it were 48.
