Molokini Snorkel Cruise from Ma'alaea

About this experience

Molokini is a sunken volcanic crater about three miles off Maui's southwest coast, protected as a state marine reserve. The Calypso, a triple-decker catamaran, leaves Ma'alaea Harbor at 7:30 AM, serves a continental breakfast on the way out and drops you at the crater to snorkel. The second stop is Turtle Town, where you can swim alongside Hawaiian green sea turtles.

It's a big boat with a big crowd. Guests love the crew, the food and the slides, and several warn that the boat is packed: arrive early for a seat, and expect a kick or two in the water. Seating is first come, first served. Wildlife is likely but not guaranteed.

The captains choose the snorkel sites each morning from the swell and wind. If Molokini is rough, you go elsewhere; one guest's trip skipped the crater for Turtle Town during a tropical storm and still saw several turtles.
