Hang Gliding Maui has flown from Hana Airport since 1990, run by pilot Armin Engert, an FAA-certified flight instructor. The gyrocopter seats you and the pilot in an open cockpit, so you feel the air the whole way. The listing's route covers the Road to Hana, Hana town, the Pipiwai Trail area and the edge of Haleakala National Park.

Time in the air depends on what you book. On Hang Gliding Maui's own website, the autogyro costs $260 for 30 minutes, $350 for 45 and $440 for 60, the same $260 as Viator's from-price. The from-price buys a 30-minute flight, even though the Viator listing gives a duration of one hour. Pick the length you want when you check dates.

Getting there is the real cost. Hana Airport sits at the end of the Road to Hana, and a guest wrote that the drive was the hardest part. Book it for the day you're already in Hana, not as a trip from Kihei. Photos and video are extra: $50 for stills, $100 for video on the operator's site.

From Kahului, take Highway 36 east and follow the signs to Hana. Allow plenty of time.

Turn left onto Alalele Road at the small Hana Airport sign. Walk under the satellite dishes, through the opening in the rock wall, past the keep-out sign to the hangar.
